Help me give my students quality children's literature that builds character. This series of illustrated biographies engages even the most reluctant readers!
Fabulous fourth graders! Our students come to school each morning ready and eager to learn! We are a group of nine- and ten-year-olds from a public school in rural Delaware. Our class is comprised of a wide range of abilities and backgrounds. Within our four walls are students from five different countries, those with special needs, English Language Learners, and also those who are gifted and talented! All of these students are learning the fourth-grade curriculum but at different levels.
Our diverse population loves learning!
Our methods and environments are focused to help each of them meet or exceed their education capabilities. We incorporate a variety of strategies, working groups, and learning options to ensure successes. Every day we work to provide curriculum remediation and enrichment as well as to develop the leadership qualities of our fantastic 4th graders!
My Project
Double duty! These high-interest illustrated biographies will serve a dual purpose. First and foremost, they will enhance the print-rich classroom that we have strived to create. They are excellent examples of quality children's literature that will be used in a small group instructional setting as well as in lending capacity. Titles were chosen with our students' interests, ability levels, and demographics in mind. More importantly, however, these books have been chosen specifically to enhance leadership within our class.
As students read these biographies, they will be exposed to the qualities all leaders share.
By reading real-world examples, our students will begin to realize the importance of perseverance, inner strength, and passion. We want them to realize that success is not instantaneous but rather something that can be attained with hard work and determination. Our hope is that each student will begin to internalize these qualities, persevere through failures, and develop a strong ethic.
