Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach in the South Bronx, one of the lowest economic areas in the city. My school is a Title 1 elementary public school filled with unique diverse scholars eager to learn.
With core values of integrity, perseverance, optimism, willingness and respect imbedded into the curriculum we believe our scholars have the power to overcome their zip code.
My Project
Our world today is ever evolving and opening new doors of acceptance and tolerance. Kids need exposure to diverse cultures to learn the beauty and benefits of diversity.
Books routed in multiculturalism expose young minds to cultures similar to their own as well as developing an understanding of culture differences.
As educators we must take the first step in teaching tolerance through cultural understanding and appreciation. These books will allow artists to explore cultural traditions, customs and celebrations as well tell stories of diverse backgrounds to create a diverse foundation for learners.
