Turning Learning Upside Down in a Flipped Classroom!
Help me give my students this iPad Pro to be used as we "flip" the classroom! With the help of the Apple Pencil, I will be able to create and annotate with ease!
While the inside of a classroom is a wonderful place for learning, there is a lot to be said for having the ability to experience the ever-changing nature of math and science as it happens in the real world. Our students need this!
My students come from a small rural school and community in central Kansas that emphasizes a well-rounded experience.
These students participate in numerous academic and athletic competitions, are active in organizations like FFA, FCCLA, and FCA, and are engaged in community-wide activities, many of which involve volunteer service projects. My students love hands-on science and math experiences, always asking for more labs and demonstrations. They are creative and intuitive, and often question how their in-class learning will translate into their real-world experience. Our students frequently continue into STEM related careers - business, nursing, engineering, education, medicine, and more.
My Project
As our students continue to engage in more technology-based learning, now is the time for us to flip how our learning looks! A flipped classroom environment turns classroom time into "homework" time - with time for students to ask questions, engage in discussion, and practice skills. Time outside of the classroom, then, is spent learning a concept, exploring an idea, or discovering something new.
This iPad Pro and Apple Pencil will make the transition from the traditional environment to the flipped environment seamless.
It will allow my students to access relevant and meaningful content at their fingertips, in their time and space, and will allow our time together in the classroom to be more student-centered and activity driven. The materials from this project will allow me to effectively and efficiently transition from the status quo to an engagement method which better meets students where they are.
