Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am a teacher in a low income and high poverty neighborhood. My students face adversity on a daily basis, yet each day I see them displaying a positive and upbeat demeanor. During class time I can sense their eagerness to learn about the day's activities. Due to my student's socioeconomic status they were unfamiliar with several activities we did throughout the year.
It is essential that these students learn more about physical fitness activities that will help promote their physical fitness and well-being.
I would love the opportunity to invite them to learn more about physical education by introducing them to new sports and games that they otherwise would never be exposed to.
My Project
I am requesting 5 sets of portable badminton nets that include 4 rackets in each set, plus an additional 6 rackets to introduce a new sport that my students have never participated in and are eager and willing to learn! Having the necessary equipment will allow the students to experience firsthand and learn badminton skills such as the forehand and backhand strokes. Having multiple portable nets will allow for great collaborative group work, activities, and games.
By introducing a new activity to these students they will be able to practice team building and partnerships, increase physical activity, and learn a new way to participate in a healthy, active lifestyle.
Your donation will provide that opportunity and experience that the students have never been exposed to. The equipment will be managed and stored for future students to come.
