My Students

I teach in Career and Technical Education. My students love to work with their hands, get dirty, and have a break from the standard classroom. Many of my students are not college-bound and are taking my class to see if they might be interested in a field of work related to woodworking, such as a cabinet maker. Other students I have are just interested in creating something with their hands and I think they take a lot more home with them than just a project.

Many students in the district are in some form of economic hardship and qualify for the school's fee waiver for class and/or for school lunches.

My Project

COVID has been hard on everyone but especially the students. The lathe is a very popular tool this year and I don't have a full setup for it yet. It is a mesmerizing tool to use as your project spins around and takes shape. The students love it and there has been a steady stream of projects this year. I want them to be able to do more with it. These items will help complete our turning equipment and restock items we are low on. Many of my students say they only came to school so they could work on their projects. I want to keep motivating them and get them through the doors so they can continue to learn.
