Ms. C. from Santa Rosa CA is requesting Books through DonorsChoose, the #1 classroom funding site for teachers.

Turn Us on to Reading!

My students need new, interesting, diverse books for our class library. Most students don't have books at home, and going to the library isn't part of their family habits. These are books they've requested.

My Students

As a teacher in a high poverty/low income school, I am always trying to advocate for my students. Most speak English as a second language and many come from broken homes or homes filled with multiple families. They are funny, hard-working, respectful, kind, and they want to succeed.

All students' voices deserve to be heard.

I am always looking for different ways for kids to feel validated either through the books they read, the poetry the publish, or the speeches they give. There is nothing better than seeing the proud faces of my students when they share their experiences and voices with the world.

My Project

I want my students to love the time they spend reading every day. The problem I run into constantly is that kids don't like to read... Or at least they don't think they do! My low-income students don't have books at home, and most don't have parents who read with them, so reading at school is so important.

Once kids find the right book, convincing them to read becomes easy.

When they ask me for time to read a book like Amulet, Hilo, or Gabi, A Girl in Pieces, I know I've won the battle. The books I've chosen are all high-interest books that my students have requested or recommended. Please consider increasing our library and helping my kids embrace reading!
