Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach a diverse group of 8th graders in Language Arts at a middle school in a semi-rural community. My students come from diverse countries and backgrounds; this tapestry of different experiences and cultures makes our student body one that is interesting and charismatic. Many of my students also live in challenging economic conditions; nearly 70% of our students live at or below the poverty level. My 8th graders are hardworking, kind, and eager to learn; they have already shown a love for learning, and I want to provide them the tools to enhance their learning experiences.
My Project
One of our goals is to improve our listening and speaking skills. My students are using CommonLit as a digital textbook as well as Seesaw, a digital portfolio platform, to record and describe their work/learning. We need a class set of headphones to use with our Chromebooks and personal devices to enhance our learning experience.
Today's students need opportunities to both speak and listen as part of the learner experience.
These headsets will enable students to record videos and audio notes for their Seesaw digital portfolios. The headsets will also allow students to use the "Read Aloud" feature in CommonLit.
