Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am a new fifth-grade teacher at a Title I elementary school in Los Angeles. One of the things I value most about my school is our diversity. In my classroom, I have students from many different backgrounds. I consistently strive to differentiate instruction to meet the various needs of these learners. Unfortunately, our school often lacks the funding to supply our students with the supplies needed to strengthen and enrich their learning in different ways.
Regardless of their backgrounds, my 33 students are ALL excited about learning and strive to do their very best every day in the classroom.
These hardworking fifth graders are talented and highly motivated to learn, each day coming to school with a positive attitude and a willingness to tackle new challenges.
Each of my students are excited about learning and strive to do their very best everyday in the classroom. In our class, we are rarely quiet, but we are always learning!
My Project
In our bustling 5th grade classroom, we participate in a variety of learning activities throughout the day. This year, we are one-to-one with Chromebooks so students are finally able to access the internet all day, including valuable learning websites like Epic! reading, ST Math, and Zearn.
Unfortunately, students without individual headphones are not able to access all of these features of these fantastic learning sites.
Our school does not have the budget to provide earbuds or headphones to all 33 of our students, and therefore, those students are missing out on valuable learning opportunities daily.
Additionally, it is very loud in our classroom due to the air conditioning system and outside noise, and our current set of computer speakers cannot be heard by all of our students. These students are often unable to hear the read-aloud we listen to on Audible, the music I play while they are working independently or our PE lessons on GoNoodle. A new Bluetooth speaker would allow me to turn up the volume so that all students can hear the lessons all the time.
