Mrs. Kamenick from Waite Park MN is requesting instructional technology through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
My students need a classroom set of high quality headphones to access technology to its fullest during reading and math instruction.

The students that I have the privilege of teaching are widely diverse in many ways. Their families come from all over the world, so a majority of them are learning English as a second language. In addition, a large percentage of our school (90%) receives free or reduced lunch. They come from a variety of ethnic, social, and socioeconomic backgrounds, and their differences are what make them such an enjoyable group of kids.
Despite their many differences, the eagerness to learn is present in every student of mine, and I am determined to provide them with as many experiences as possible.
Working with low-income families, I have realized that the teacher becomes extremely essential in the child's development. Many of my students tell me that they do not have books, pencils, or coloring utensils to use at home. My students are truly dependent on our school to help them succeed. As first graders, they show such enthusiasm for learning, and they need a fully equipped classroom to nurture that desire, and to keep learning exciting.
When used correctly, technology is highly effective in the elementary classroom. My students are fortunate to have a set of iPads to use throughout the day. The vast majority of iPad apps require sound to enhance the learning of both math and literacy skills. Right now, I do not have enough headphones for all the iPads to be in use.
The headphones that I am hoping to receive will allow my students to use iPad apps to their full potential, while the learning environment surrounding them will remain calm, uninterrupted, and focused.
With these high-quality headphones, my students will be able to hear letter sounds and names clearly, listen to audiobooks, and become automatic with number sense skills. I chose high-quality headphones so they will last, and so they can continue to impact student learning for years to come. I have seen how technology can improve a classroom, and I plan to take full advantage of the resources we are provided.
