My students need these Hokki stools in our developing flexible seating classroom to help them focus on their learning and to learn self control; these are also beneficial in improving posture and developing trunk control!

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach in a very low socioeconomic area. The neighborhood is truly a community; parents and students alike spend a lot of time at the school during events and parties. All of my students live within walking distance of their school, in fact most of them do walk.

66% of my students have a parent at home that does not speak English.

I have three gifted students in my classroom who often like to lead discussions. I have a rock star group of kids who love hands on, interactive learning. We do a lot of science experiments and community building projects. One of the goals of my class is to do a clean up project around the school.

My Project

We are trying to turn our classroom into a flexible seating classroom. Hokki stools are a fantastic addition to our ever developing classroom. Hokki stools help calm wiggles; they also help turn wiggles into a learning experience. Children who have problems staying still are able to move and balance while working those beautiful minds. In our classroom, hokki stools would be used during small group and center time. Each student will have a chance to use the hokki stool during a specific center and would get the chance to improve their posture and get those wiggles out.

These hokki stools also help my classroom by reducing the amount of classroom behavior issues; most of the behavior issues in second grade come from continuous movement and distractions of others.

This will help our classroom by giving more time to hands on, one on one learning time! I am so excited to see my students happy, wiggling, and ready to learn!
