My students rock! They are very musical and love creating. I have always been driven towards students who struggle or are struggling because I feel as if I can relate to them. Music is my outlet. Many of them use music as an outlet too. Their lives seem all mixed up until they jump into music class. It allows them to take a breather from other classes and just relax while learning valuable life lessons as well as music lessons.
My Project
Currently we only have small, fifteen plus year old drums at our school that cannot play different pitches. Many of them are currently torn or worn from old age.
I'm requesting a Kid's Rain Forest Konga, a Percussion Rain Forest Floor Tom, a Gathering Drum, and Rain Forest Tubanos.
The purchase of these drums will allow us to not only use them in the classroom, but to also start a percussion ensemble in which the kids will be able to interact on a small group level to perform more advanced music.
My students often ask to play drums and I feel bad because we do not have enough resources to do so. Playing a percussion instrument is a great way for students to start working on keeping a steady beat. They also work on many social skills while using small instruments in the music classroom such as; how to take turns, performing for fellow students and listening graciously to fellow students perform.
These drums will allow us to meet over ten content standards!
