Like all great innovators, our students are able to explore possibilities and create solutions that will impact our future thanks to the implementation of the Makerspace. On a typical day students may be designing, programming or putting together electrical circuits.
Our students are 4K-5th graders that are very excited to design, program and build.
We have recently implemented a Makerspace at our school and our students have been engaged in many Makerspace activities. For example, all students will be participating in coding during the Hour of Code in December and many students have been exploring circuits, Lego robotics and inventing with easy to use kits. They are now eager to begin using the design process to solve real world problems.
My Project
Our students are going to be designing a prototype that will solve a real world problem. After testing their prototype, they will be able to bring their design to life using the 3D printer. Being able to actually print out their design is a valuable step in the design process. It will allow the students to test their design and learn about failing, trying again and improving their design.
Our students have amazing ideas.
Using a 3D printer gives us a way to bring their design ideas to life. A 3D printer will turn our students into designers and inventors. The world’s greatest inventors from Leonardo Da Vinci to Thomas Edison learned and created by exploring and tinkering. Many of these great minds surrounded themselves with the people and resources needed to bring their ideas to life. A 3D printer will be one of those resources for our students.
