Many of the students in my classroom have experienced trauma in their lives and have difficulty coming to school. Our class serves students with a range of disabilities, including intellectual disabilities, emotional disturbance, autism spectrum disorder and specific learning disabilities.
Special education teachers are expected to deliver excellent instruction in English, Math, and Science without the requisite tools to teach our students.
A typical day in my classroom is filled with fun, hands on learn activities that incorporate whole brain and whole body movements that keeps students engaged and participating in their learning. My classroom is made up of 12 special education students in kindergarten, first and second grade. My day consists of a lot of small group instruction so each grade level gets the curriculum they need.
My Project
My students are creative, curious, and strong individuals. The majority of my classroom come from a low socioeconomic background. My classroom serves 12 children with autism and intellectual disabilities ranging from kindergarten to second graders.
They are readers, writers, mathematicians, artists, and dreamers.
I see what each student has the potential to become, as they persevere through problems and laugh alongside classmates. All my students are capable of learning, just on different days, and in different ways. By donating to this project you will be assisting by students learn in a "different way." When students have the access to audio books they are gaining independence, improving on their listening and comprehension skills.
