My Project

January marks the halfway point in our fifth graders' final year of elementary school. The kids have been working hard and have made tremendous progress. One thing the kids have really enjoyed is creating projects featuring voice recordings. Whether it be something as simple as a reading fluency check or a much more involved animated retelling of a narrative story, adding a personal audio component has elevated their effort and engagement on assignments. That said, technology constraints result in audio recordings that are often of poor quality and detract from the overall assignment. Students can get discouraged by having to redo a recording because their Chromebook mic picked up too much background noise or their reading sounded muffled.

Knowing how much our students enjoy this type of work, we want to give them tools to help elevate their final projects into something of which they can truly be proud.

Having quality microphones will ensure a clean, impressive recording. Of course, the gradient RGB lighting will be a major carrot for getting kids to the recording stage of their projects. Having a comfortable set of headphones will help students when reviewing their recording, plus the attached mic will allow for last-second audio edits.

This project also includes six board games. While these games won't help our students create quality audio recordings, they will help build critical thinking skills while also helping foster more engagement and connection to our classroom. The last half of fifth grade can be a stressful time of transition. Having the opportunity to play some challenging but fun games will be a great way to boost community while turning down the stress--at least for a little bit.
