Tune It Up and Keep in Time

My Project

Intonation is an important aspect of the band room and one that can be very difficult to teach to young players, especially as they develop their ears. Using classroom electronic tuners and clipboards, I created individual tuning stations where students can tune during warmups, sectionals, and class time. I created a diagram on the clipboard so students can visually see where their intonation falls, and how to adjust their respective instrument. Electronic tuners are great tools to use as it helps students to visually adjust their intonation.

I only have one tuning station for each building, and I would like to provide two more stations for each band room.

The assembly is quick and easy, and students are able to take ownership of their sound. Even better, students are able to tune themselves during class without their phones, and can follow up during home practice with their own devices. Students that do not have devices will be able to sign out a station if they so choose.

The tuners I have chosen for our project also have built in metronomes, which help students keep a steady beat while playing. This will be a great tool to use during sectionals as well as individual practice.
