PSIS 41 is a recently designated School for the Arts located in the Brownsville section of Brooklyn New York. As part of our arts programs, we have extended visual arts, dance and music programs to both after-school and weekends. We would like to start a new After-School program where a designated evening for artistic movies will be used to further include families into our arts programming. The bond of parent and student in a cohesive learning environment has proven extremely successful in improving student participation in the arts at our school. To make this program happen we would need a DVD player (already have one being donated), a 30 inch wide-screen TV and a mobile storage cart to allow us to show groups of up to 30 student/family members a recently released movie that the entire family could enjoy together. Following the movie, there would be a short critique. We have also received verbal commitments from two local DVD rental businesses to provide the DVDs for this program at no cost to the school. The TV & Cart equipment would allow us to assimilate up to 375 family members over a 15 week period. Since there are no consumables being used, the equipment could be re-used for a second 15-week period in the Spring for a total of up to 750 participants.
