This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

My students love to compose and play instruments. They love coming to music.

Being a Title I school, many students don't have access to instruments or enrichment activities outside of class.

I love giving them opportunities to play and enjoy the various instruments. I try to include a variety of cultures for them to be proud of their heritage, as well as learn about others.

All of the students love getting to play instruments from around the world. They enjoy the hands on change to their daily learning.

My Project

We would like to expand our World Drum program down to our younger students. However, their classes are bigger and we need more drums. We would like to add a set of stacking Tubano drums so they are easy to store. The removable heads offer more versatility as they can be used as frame drums and help keep little hands off the instruments when they are not being used. The elementary school students have been hearing the older students play and keep asking if they can do it too. The larger class size makes it more difficult to keep everyone on task and out of trouble. More instruments means more hands on and less trouble.
