My students are from diverse backgrounds which makes our school a wonderful place to teach and learn. Each student in my class brings something unique to our community. More than one-third of our student population is from low-income households. They are eager to learn and are in need of a classroom library that will allow all the students to find books for their interests and ability levels.
I am building a library for 24 avid readers that just can't get books quick enough.
This is my first year teaching at MACS, which means I have not had much time to build a library suitable for my students needs. This is something that can take years and the cost falls mostly on me, as the classroom teacher. A school budget can only go so far and if I want my students to continue to be lifelong readers I have to provide them with the proper tools. BOOKS! BOOKS! BOOKS!
My Project
These are books highly recommended to my students from other 5th grade students that I have had in the past. This is an opportunity to share the love of literature with books like One for The Murphy's, The Poppy Series by Avi, Esperanza Rising, and Wonderstruck.
We have a running list of books in our classroom that my students are desperate to get their hands on.
Each book having an inspirational message, great figurative language, or inspiring characters that pull the reader into the story.
With this list of books I will be able to reach every reader in my class regardless of interest of reading level.
