Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our Middle School students are from a diverse background. We are a group of people in a small town with economic problems facing everyone. Our library is spacious and beautiful, but has been neglected far too long. The books are getting in need of replacement. And there are far too many empty shelves.
Our students are participating in Accelerated Reader and are reading a lot everyday.
This is something I hope I can build on this existing program and be instrumental for kids to read more and just for the fun of it. Reading for entertainment is a lifelong activity I hope to create in more of our population.
I hope to put more books on our shelves. My goal is to find high interest low vocabulary to improve reading more for entertainment.
My Project
We would like to buy new books for our students here in CMS and improve our library by increasing the amount of sci fi collection and watch the scores soar because more reading is taking place for pleasure.
Our scores on the state test is lower than average.
More than three fourths of our students are from households below average income. And qualify for free lunches.
We are participating in the accelerated reading program and the students do read a lot at school.
By furnishing more books in high interest level they will have more opportunities to read. Reading is an opportunity to learn about the world they are living in. Our students are motivated to read more because of our current programs and classes. By providing extra high interest books, they will read for pleasure and more often they read, the better chance for improvement in their educational learning and state test scores.
