This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Lexington Nebraska is a wonderful community with awesome students from many different countries. My students are budding scientists. Currently, my students are participating in an aquaponics project. My students love doing hands-on science.

Expanding on aquaponics, I want my students to participate in learning during our Trout in the Classroom project.

I have received training for Trout in the Classroom project. We need this equipment since Game and Parks no longer funds this for everyone. Please support my students as they learn and do hands-on science.

My Project

My students are learning science by doing numerous hands on activities. Currently, my students are participating in an aquaponics project through University of Nebraska-Kearney. Through this project, students are raising tilapia in the aquarium and growing tomatoes and basil in the above planter. My students' interest in nature has increased and I want to continue to involve my students in hands-on science that connect them to nature.

Students will have a connection with the environment through hands-on activities - as a result, students will care about their environment.

Students will raise trout from eggs to fingerlings, monitor tank water quality, learn to appreciate water resources, foster a conservation ethic, and grow an understanding of ecosystems. As a result, students will make connections to science outside of the classroom. Finally, every May, students will participate in the release of the trout into a Nebraska State Park Lake.
