I have an amazing, outgoing and creative group of students who have chosen to give up their time to create projects to compete in the East TN Division of National History Day. This was not required I just asked if any want to do this, and these 50 jumped right in. These students are so full of life & energy, and they have taken the theme of NHD Triumph & Tragedy and come up with great ideas to showcase the research they have done from creating the USS Arizona for Pearl Harbor, a school house for the Clinton 12, a track shoe for Wilma Rudolph, and many more. They have vigourously searched for primary and secondary documents to make their projects stand out.
Our school is in a very low socio-economic area and many of these students struggle to come up with the basic supplies and resources to create their projects.
These materials will enhance my students exhibits and give them the opportunity to compete in the National History Day competiton. They have been working for over two months on the research portion of their projects and are now ready to WOW the judges by creating unbelievable projects. These materials will give them the best opportunity to do this.
They want to present their projects in creative and eye catching ways like doing a 3D model of the White House to show how Dolly Madison triumphed ove the tragedy of the burning of the White House during the War of 1812, creating a cross for the Ressurection, designing a shield show the triumph of Joan of Arc and also her tragic death, and many other outstanding ideas.
