This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
History is alive and thriving in the music world! I am helping my students develop the only elementary band in our county at an urban, low-income school. The desire that these kids show for learning to play instruments is nothing short of amazing! We are creating history each day!
Our community has embraced us as we work on developing a program that our children will be proud of for many years to come. We would like to work together with our schoolmates to capture our journey onto film.
Because of the nature of our school, our students take electives beginning in Kindergarten! Along with the band, I teach other music classes that develop projects designed to learn about music and also share our art with others, inspiring a collective appreciation for the connections between music and the community. We need this collective cooperation of our school and community in order to maximize our students' educations. A tripod and projection screen for our class will help our students develop new types of projects that will open their minds to a new form of art, and will give those outside our school an opportunity to learn from our classes and projects through a new form of exposure.
These students are creating a musical history today that will last forever. We want to capture the present so that we may learn from it for years to come. Thank you for your consideration.
