Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I'm a 6th grade teacher at Patrick Henry Prep School. I teach every subject to 28 students. I love this group because they are at that age where they can appreciate things done for them. At the same time it is not easy to keep their interest in every subject. Which is why I like to use hand-on-activities whenever possible. Science is one of those subjects that students need to do experiments in order to understand the concept of what they are learning. My favorite lesson is about Molecule. I love drawing them on chart paper and explaining what they are. Which leads into DNA and traits. Students are paired up and they compare their characteristics with each other and the class. This is where I incorporate a Math as well. Funny how students sometimes don't see how Math and Science relate. The Museum has an exhibition called Mathematica-A World of Numbers, where my students can witness a formation of an in the flesh bell curve. However, the first project my class will undertake will be the exhibition the Museum has on Molecules. They have many activities on it that my students will be able to visualize and enhance their curiosity. Once you get them interested, the rest is easy. Education outside of the textbooks, I believe, is rewarding. Unfortunately, many of my students come from a home with little or no income at all. When it comes to educating our children, nothing should stand in their way. Therefore, if anybody can help us with this trip we would greatly appreciate it. Thank you in advance.
