Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students in my Physics and AP Calculus class have never been on an excursion in High school to promote STEM majors. This trip will allow them to explore what they learned in the classroom and have engaging interactions with complex mathematical and physical topics.
Our school is a title one school and is located in the poorest district in America.
Our school is located in the Bronx and is predominately Hispanic. The students are not given the best opportunities to explore their potential. Many of them can become engineers, scientists, IT, ect. but lack the awareness from their families and environment around them.
My Project
Liberty Science Center is a 300,000-square-foot learning center dedicated to bringing the excitement of science to people of all ages. Liberty Science Center houses 12 museum exhibition halls, a live animal collection with 110 species, giant aquariums, a 3D theater, the nation's largest IMAX Dome Theater, live simulcast surgeries, tornado and hurricane-force wind simulators, K-12 classrooms and labs.
(Example of an exhibition:Beyond Planet Earth: The Future of Space Exploration; Learn what’s next in the human quest to explore space. )
I visited liberty science center when I was a child and I always remembered how amazing it was.
When they return to the classroom we will discuss what each of them learned and which part of the venue related to what we learned in the classroom. This trip can solidify what we learned in the classroom or clear of questions for students who are still unsure about a particular topic. Most of all, I want my students to leave there never forgetting the wonders of science and mathematics.
