My students are part of a community venturing from the comprehensive learning environment and experiencing an education attuned to their specific needs. As an independent study school, our diverse student body is a blend of unique individuals and instead of being lost in the classroom one-on-one educational relationships are developed between student, teacher and administrator.
Individuality is core to our ideology.
We are part of an academically competitive school district but while our neighboring comprehensive schools have abundant resources and parent involvement, as a smaller alternative school serving families from not only our district but neighboring communities, our financial needs require more outreach.
We have everyone: athletic superstars, academic luminaries, social butterflies, shy wallflowers, and wounded birds. Whatever reason our students are here for, they have one thing in common: comprehensive education did not meet their needs and they will do what they need to get the education they deserve.
My Project
I am looking to enrich our middle school curriculum with "tried and true" novels that have stood the test of time. Teachers and parents all over agree that these novels not only inspire students but also keep kids wanting to read until the final page is turned.
These trusty chapter books are rich with cross-curricular content that captivates and inspires kids to think beyond the obvious!
The hope is that these novels will cultivate interesting discussions and awareness of the world around them. Curiosity and interest in these novels will lead to great thoughts and powerful discussions. Ready, set, read!!
