My Project
I'm blessed to work at a special education center school for students in grades K-12. Our amazing program is located in Michigan. We serve students with a wide variety of psychiatric, cognitive, and behavioral needs. We serve students from our entire city. Our school has thirty-seven beautiful young people with varying strengths and weaknesses. Their backgrounds are as diverse as their abilities.
We are all unique, but we are definitely a family here.
Halloween was my favorite holiday as a child. I loved dressing up and showing off my costume to my neighbors! Not every child has that opportunity, however. In economically struggling areas, neighborhoods do not buy candy, and there are no extra finances for costumes. Safety issues do not allow for kids to walk around from house to house. Homeless students do not have a neighborhood to go to. These issues and more simply exclude the majority of our kids from the festivities.
This year, we are having a school-wide celebration where OUR students can celebrate the Harvest by dressing up and trick-or-treating.
We will have school-wide trick-or-treating from room to room throughout our school and a pizza party! This will definitely be one of the highlights of our school year! We are asking for donations to help make this the best Halloween yet for our students with a fabulous variety of candy, chips, rice Krispy treats, and small toys as well as gift cards for Domino's Pizza to treat the students. Please consider contributing to this very special event for some very special students to bring this fun holiday to them!
