Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

I work in a math and science magnet school with very curious and active children. I have 18 students with varying backgrounds and mostly from a low SES. Some of my students have a very rocky home life. Most students come to school with little to no school supplies, some are even homeless. My class is the only place where there is daily consistency for many of my students. My classroom is their safe place, a place where they know someone cares about them.

My Project

This new gathering area rug will give my students the space they need to learn and grow without bumping and squishing each other. Being that close together is also very distracting for those students with attention problem. This new rug will help alleviate many behavior problems that arise when students are too close together.

Every time my students come to the gathering area, they always complaining that they are too squished and there is not enough room to write.

A larger gathering area will allow students the space they need to do the individual and partner work that we do almost daily in the gathering area.
