My students are excited to learn science and love to incorporate project-based learning into our lessons. They love going home and sharing what they are learning, and look forward to connecting their learning with future career goals. I am always looking for new ways to engage my students both in and out of the classroom.
My students become very engaged in learning when we can create project-based learning opportunities.
Our school is in a small, rural school district in southwest Ohio, housed in a building that is almost one hundred years old. Some of my students are learning in the same classrooms that their parents and grandparents did and that makes our school a comfortable place for families to gather.
My Project
I am requesting tree cookies, lab sample core kits and a tree core borer to be able to study change over time looking at tree cores and tree ring information.
My students will be able to not only analyze tree rings but take their own core samples from our local area to study climate change.
Students will be able to look at the age of the samples, the climate conditions throughout the life of the tree and be able to make comparisons to online climate change data and be able to correlate it to what we see in our corner of the universe.
