Help me give my students dependable practice and performance shoes for the school year.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
We are a 90-90 working on the last 90 schools. 99% of our students are a minority. 90% of our students are considered "at-risk" due to family income, home life, and their environment. My cheerleading squad works hard every day to overcome the stigma associated with being students at an urban school in an urban district. In order for our students to have a vested interest in the school-wide expectations and curriculum, we as a faculty, staff, and community must first have a vested interest in them. Through discipline, structure, and high expectations, we try to break down barriers and set new standards for our athletes.
Every day, we teach our student-athletes to strive beyond barriers and fear to reach their full potential.
We work with our athletes each and every day to teach them the value of self-discipline and hard work.
Many people do not realize how important proper cheer shoes are to improving safety and minimizing injuries for cheerleaders. Many squads utilize one pair of cheer shoes throughout their cheer year. This means that one pair of shoes must last through football season, basketball season, practice, and, for some squads, competition.
When shoes become worn down from overuse, the risk of knee and ankle injuries increases.
For this reason, I am requesting one pair of cheer shoes through the funding of this project. In this way, my cheerleaders can have two pair of shoes, while my parents will only have to pay for one pair. The cost of cheer apparel and equipment is much more expensive than many people think. This project will help reduce the costs to my parents.
By utilizing two pairs of shoes, my cheerleaders can have one pair of shoes to practice and perform in during football season and one pair of shoes to practice and perform in during basketball season. In this way, I can aid in the prevention of injuries due to inadequate or ill functioning cheer shoes and reduce the out of pocket costs to parents.
