My students are the type of teenagers who love to be challenged- they just don't know it until it is happening! When students are interested in what they are doing in class, learning is natural and even...fun!
Students deserve to learn and they deserve books that educate them on more than one skill.
The novels that I'm asking for teach historical events and many literary skills necessary for student growth in the area of reading and meeting standards of literature.
The novels Night, A Long Way Gone, and The Boy in the Striped Pajamas will be used to teach literacy skills and cultural experiences. There are many novels that my students do not have the opportunity to read because of school funding. I believe that they should have an opportunity to choose and enjoy memoirs from all different cultures.
Because I teach a World Literature course, my students take a field trip every day- a field trip through history, through different eras, through the eyes of many different characters.
These novels will help students explore further while studying literacy skills.
