Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
The students at our Middle School are striving to be self-directed learners every day. They create a goal and then work out a plan for how they will achieve it. Personalized learning has turned our kids into leaders of tomorrow.
My fifth grade team is made up of 100 students from all types of socioeconomic statuses, ELL/LEP, and students needing special education accommodations.
Each student knows they are part of a family culture when they come into our school.
To get our students ready for the outside world after school we teach them to be a leader. The leader in my program has shown kids to not react to situations out of their control but rather to proactively find solutions to possible problems. Students are striving every day to gain a brighter future for themselves and pave a way for others to follow in their footsteps.
My Project
Students will be given the opportunity to travel the world in their imaginations with the help of a classroom library. They will have the chance to meet new characters, develop new understandings of setting, and identify the way a character can change throughout a story.
Many of our students come to us with no desire to read or lack the ability to read on a level that is appropriate for their age.
Giving students more options of books that they may enjoy is key to building fluency and creating a love for reading. Students can enjoy an area with a classroom library where they can be exposed to books they may never have thought to read.
