Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Special education students need hands on experiences to develop their full potential. Teaching them how to access the world they live in with technology is key to developing successful life skills, while improving their reading and writing abilities. My students would LOVE using an iPad!
My school is a special haven for children experiencing learning difficulties.
Every class has children of varying abilities, and special education students are part of each and every opportunity in school. Technology is encouraged for student success today and in their future. The urban setting of my school encompasses many socio-economic levels; some families need help providing the basic necessities. Many children have limited access to advancing technology. Technical literacy is a skill my students need to develop. Reading, writing and math are all integrated into using an iPad. Plus, for special needs students, it is very reinforcing. The are having fun while learning.
My Project
An iPad in my classroom will expand the children's opportunities for reading, spelling and learning basic math skills. Children love games, and children with special needs thrive with the immediate responses provided by games on an iPad. The many apps available will allow for individualized instruction in a highly motivating format. The students will also be learning how to use technology to do searches for information, see places around the world in real time, listen to books they may not be able to read due to disabilities. This is the way to show the world to children.
By having an iPad, my students will develop 21st century skills for a lifetime of learning.
Children with special needs require specialized instruction and instructional accommodations. What better way to learn than with the tools they will use for their life? My students WANT to learn, and they CAN! They just need every opportunity to have more exposures, use different resources, and feel success. This iPad will help me provide that for my class.
