I need to attend an intensive informed-trauma training to deepen my understanding of ACES and the impact of childhood trauma on student learning. The workshops and book will help me to be an effective teacher.

My class is a special group of diverse students who attend a Title 1 school in North Philadelphia. These 30 wonderful scholars will need opportunities and access to rich, educational experiences. I work to encourage a strong home, school connection and respect for my students. Many students have experienced trauma that has caused an impact on their learning, thinking, and behavior. They want to learn but have so many challenges to overcome. Some students struggle to manage and deal with their trauma all school year. Students will need much love and support!
Homelessness is a reality for some of the children in the community where I teach. It is my responsibility as an agent of change to be sensitive and understand the signs of homelessness so I can be proactive in providing support. I have had students in my classroom that were homeless which was evident in their absenteeism, hunger, and hygiene deficits. Studies show that homelessness is one of the causes of childhood trauma and has a direct impact on students' academic success. Therefore, I am interested in attending a trauma-informed conference to help in my classroom and share this information with my school. This is something I am passionate about and believe will help my school community.
