Trauma-Informed Care: Addressing the Needs of All Learners
I need $200 to attend the Trauma-Informed Care workshop to obtain skills to meet the needs of all learners, especially students who need trauma-informed care.
This group of middle school students are absolutely the best. I am truly happy and lucky to work with these diverse and unique students every day. My learners are proud of their accomplishments, but also struggle with their weaknesses. Many of them come to school with trauma that severely impacts their day-to-day. This school year, I want my students to be successful in as many activities as possible. Our math class is an inclusive co-teaching classroom for special education students.
We know that trauma has an impact on learning, and being a teacher is just one of the many factors that impact out students' lives.
I have had an equal number of challenges and successes with my profession so far. This school year, I have been able to work full time with students with special needs, including those with severe trauma and have witnessed first hand the negative impact that trauma can have on a students ability to learn. I have met so many great teachers that I love to work with and learn from and would love to pass on to them the wisdom and experience that I will learn from attending this training.
My Project
Trauma-informed care for educators is an increasingly needed topic of training. I see it in the classroom on a daily basis and I am excited that this opportunity is now available.
Through attending this professional development, I will be able to work with other educators to establish a trauma-informed classroom that includes safety and inclusivity.
I will strengthen my skills at building trust with hard-to-reach students and meet the social and emotional needs of diverse learners. I will be able to communicate more effectively with challenging students and incorporate a strengths-based perspective.
This is a much-needed missing piece of public school education. Let's be proactive about educating our teachers!
