My Project

Our school is a welcoming place for Refugee and Newcomer students. We strive to give students equitable access to the content. Recently, we have received over 60 new students who are Newcomers. We have over 40 languages that are represented at my school. Texts in some languages, such as Yoruba or Pashto, are not readily available. Using a pen is not the only way our English Learners receive support/instruction. However, it will be a great supporting tool for teachers to use to help students learn the content. It is great when you see students thrive! Having a translation pen will help students understand the text or discussions and be able to participate and learn the content.

I am asking for devices that can detect the language our students are speaking and translate conversations to and from English in real time while walking around in the classroom!

Moving to a new country can be very stressful for young kids and one huge way we can help is by speaking a few words in their native language. The ability to effectively communicate while learning school routines would not only reduce our students' stress and confusion but also speed up their English language acquisition.
