My students truly come to school every day, ready to learn. We are a Title I low-income campus with over 70 percent of our scholars qualifying for free or reduced-price lunch. They have been such troopers since Hurricane Harvey destroyed so much of our community. In addition to leading them academically, we are also helping them recover emotionally from the devastation the hurricane left. It is not an easy task, but my scholars are resilient and they are putting their education at the top of their list of priorities.
My Project
These iPads will help contribute to scholar-driven instruction. After Hurricane Harvey in 2017, so many resources were lost or destroyed. Scholars lost things, teachers lost things... it has been a true effort by all to recover.
My scholars are making a genuine effort to leave the after effects of the hurricane behind, and I want to reward their tenacity and determination by bringing these iPads into the classroom.
We will use them for a variety of things—workstations, rewards for positive behavior, research, and STEM projects that we will complete this year, including creating and editing videos. The skills they will acquire through the use of the iPads is going to be monumental!
