Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our school is approximately 1 mile from Juárez, Mexico. Most of my students have limited language or no language and require pictures with words to develop language. Our classroom is a PreK center with students ranging from 3 to 5 years old. More than 80% of my students are low income. My students learn in a different way and require pictures to develop their new words and language. Our classroom would benefit from a printer so that we can print pictures with words to develop their language.
My Project
Our school district is not providing printers for our classrooms anymore. Having a working printer in our classroom will enhance what we can print on a daily basis to help my students with their language. My students need words using pictures to develop their language and word knowledge. The pictures are used to point to what they want or need. Examples are, asking for food, items in classroom, going to restroom. We use picture symbols for our daily schedule and in everything we do in our daily routine. The printer will allow us to print many pictures of what we talk about in our books, such as pictures of animals, characters, weather, or food. This will help each student use pictures to develop their language and words.
