At my school, "Every Student Counts and Every Moment Matters!"
Our students come to school each and every day ready to take on the world and to learn, challenging themselves to be better than they were the day before!
As an educator entering my 15th year of service, with experience as both a teacher and administrator, I consider it one of my life's greatest blessings to be able to work alongside the best student scholars and educators in the country! MES, my home for the last two years, is committed to providing its students with all of the resources that are needed to engage students in rigorous, dynamic and inspirational instructional activities. There may be times when we do not have what we need, but we have taken on the "We can't yet..." not a "We can't..." attitude. Maybe we currently cannot provide our students with all of the most innovative technology available, maybe we currently do not have a 1,000+ book classroom library of high-interest books in every classroom, but soon we will! All of the resources we want to provide to our students are available to us through the magic of DonorsChoose.org thanks to donors like YOU!
Our school is located in an impoverished community, where there is extremely limited 'art.' Although students love art class in school, there are very few, if any, murals in their neighborhoods. With this in mind, we strive to provide and accommodate students with everything they need and can imagine within our school. I believe that art education trains our country's youth to become productive, contributing and creative members of society. This 'YOU Matter' mural and dream project will include having students brainstorming why we must celebrate diversity, multiculturalism and inclusion in our lives and the importance of honoring our individual and unique cultures. Students will collaborate with the renowned Joe McKinney, who is the most highly sought after muralist in the state of South Carolina, to bring this mural, which will show appreciation for all of our students, to life.
Creating a school climate where students can take pride in their own capabilities as artists while building their sense of self worth is extremely important.
Dr. R. Miller, Former Executive Director of the American Association of School Administrators said, "In the push for quality math, science, technical, humanities, and other programs, be sure that the arts are not ignored or pushed to one side. Provide your support for the total curriculum. The arts enrich us all!
