Help me give my students engaging classroom experiences! These supplies will be used for room transformations including a bat cave, the Arctic, a restaurant, a crime scene and surgery! The items are used to create an authentic experience!
Each day my students walk into our classroom full of life, eager to learn, and excited to see what our day has in store for them! They take so much pride in what they do and how much they grow as learners and thinkers throughout the year. They remind me daily why I teach!
As times have changed, so have the needs of our students.
The elementary classroom that we once knew continues to evolve with these everchanging needs. The need for engagement has been more at the forefront than now!
Just under fifty percent of the students in my school receive free or reduced lunches. Many also receive weekend food backpacks prepared and provided by a local church. Despite the hardships their families face, my students continue to come back with a can do attitude! A positive attitude along with a growth mindset remind my students just how capable they really are!
My Project
The need for engagement is at the forefront of the world of education now more than ever. One way we engage our students can be with room transformations.
While learning about bats through nonfiction texts, our students spent a day in a bat cave complete with blacked out windows (tablecloths), bats hanging from the ceiling and he sounds of a cave playing sorting in back.
A day in the Arctic includes fake snow, ice pons, and white as far as the first grade eye can see!
A crime scene lends itself to first grade investigators breaking apart sentences and math problems and finding the mistakes. First graders complete surgery on nonfiction texts to extract all of its features.
Possibilities are endless and I want my students to go places they’ve never been and never have to leave our classroom!
