This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I have seniors in an inner city high school. I had them as freshmen and sophomores; now, I have them as seniors.
Over the years, I've seen them mature, and now they are at the stage at which I can say that I'm truly proud of them!
As they go into their senior year, my objective is that they have the skills that will enable them to be successful in their post secondary education. Our theme this year is "transformation."
My Project
The Hate U Give is a book that focuses on the failure of the criminal justice system, and a young girl's need to take a stand. This book allows my students to find empathy, and at the same time to differentiate between what is considered appropriate behavior.
Our theme this year for Seniors is transformation.
We realize that in order for our students to experience success, we must transform their thinking.
My goal especially is to ensure that my students are equipped to transition successfully into the society in which they must live. The goal, therefore, is to teach tolerance.
