This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Teaching at a Title 1 school my students come from a wide spectrum of economic backgrounds. A vast majority of our student population come from homes where English is their second language. With such a socioeconomic divide, it is a daily struggle to level the playing field between students. All students deserve a quality education with the resources needed to succeed. Regardless of a family's financial status, our school expects greatness from all 850 students. We live by the motto, we can, we will succeed!

My Project

I want to provide my 5th grade students with the opportunity to learn difficult grade level content through collaborative, engaging, and hands-on lessons.

Occasionally transforming my classroom will allow my kids to experience education differently.

We will learn grade level material, participate in rigorous activities, and have FUN!

Students will be the center of attention when presenting to their peers. Who wouldn't enjoy a spotlight and a wireless microphone to help guide them through public speaking? I would also like to transform my room into a glow in the dark party where students will dig deeper into text, highlight, and then use the highlighted information to write a response. The writing assignment is so much more fun when your highlighted information glows with the help of the requested black lights and disappearing ink. We will dive deeper with fact and opinion lessons that have to be brought forth to the judge. Your contribution will allow me to set the stage by supplying me with a judge's robe and gavel. We will become detectives and use clues to solve mysteries based on lessons on inference, cause and effect, and so much more. Our room will be transformed with your help by providing me with a detectives outfit and materials to transform the classroom into a crime scene. Finally, we will become surgeons who dive into sentence structure as well as learn the scientific method while wearing gloves, doctor coats, and using the game, Operation. The items I am requesting can be used to create a wide variety of learning experiences/situations for years to come.

I want to create experiences that are memorable as well as academically challenging. I want to create an environment that leaves them wanting more. I want to help create life long learners.
