My students need tarps, gloves and gowns, glow sticks and glasses, a teepee tent, and other materials that will transform the classroom to engage each learner.

My Students

My students are great thinkers, leaders, inventors, and conversationalists. They are inquisitive and want to know how things work. Our school encompasses 74 miles, and I have students from all socioeconomic groups.

Most students come to school because they have to.

My goal is to create an atmosphere where if students miss, they feel like they are missing out. Engagement is the key to teaching any lesson. If the students are invested, they will work hard. My students shine when they are invested and interested in their learning. They are proud of the work they've done when they have completed a rigorous activity that I have worked hard to get them engaged in. I want to create more of those moments for my students.

My Project

I recently got back from the conference Get Your Teach On. During that conference, the presenters talked about the power of engaging students in the lesson. Imagine taking students with no other frame of reference to the beach. One way to do this is with room transformations. The tent and mock fire will allow my students to go on a camping trip. We will gear up for sentence surgery with gloves and gowns. There will be spy's cracking reading codes with special lighting. We will use the glow products for a black light review. The materials will be used over and over again for different classroom experiences. This will provide high energy engagement in my classroom and the students will be excited to learn rigorous content.
