Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I have a very diverse group of third graders who love coming to school everyday. Most of my students mainly come from a federally funded housing project and are faced with many challenges that others are not tasked with.
We work hard to make our classroom a safe, inviting place where everyone can be heard.
Students greet each other in various ways everyday during morning meeting and finish the day on a positive note with a closing circle.
There are many lost opportunities for learning during our day due to "outside" concerns. I need more strategies for building my classroom community, student responsibility and self-reliance.
My Project
I have attended a one day Responsive Classroom training and implemented many aspects of the program and seen some great changes. Everything I have implemented, from Morning Meetings to Brain Breaks have worked really well. I am ready for more!
In the four-day interactive course, I will learn strategies to help me create a safe and joyful learning community where every student thrives—while helping my students develop strong social and academic skills.
Teaching is so much more than academics and learning to address the social emotional needs of my learners will enhance all of our time together. I am looking forward to every minute of this seminar.
