Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are special, because they actively seek change in our local and global community. As a class we want to impact our surroundings. Each month I introduce a different social justice discussion. I was reluctant at first to dive into difficult topics like, children's global educational rights or world and local hunger. As the months progressed I was continuously impressed with how my students conceptualized difficult world issues.
Most importantly, not only do my students blow me away with their deep understanding of others needs, they actively seek to develop ideas to help.
This desire to help, pushes me to find ways we, as a classroom community, can support our community needs. I want to grow in order to provide my little activists with the resources and information they need to reach others.
My Project
Teachers around the world seek training to better their craft, but at times limited resources stunts their professional growth. LRTT is a program that sends educated and experienced teachers to provide trainings and individualized workshops; to meet passionate teachers in developing countries with the needed training to best grow their perspectives and practices of education.
This professional development opportunity in South India will strengthen by professional goals by encouraging me to lead others with confidence, understanding, and consideration of diversity.
I seek to be a global minded leader in my school and community. I will grow in my thoughtfulness of individualization of content, to reflect on my personal teaching practice. My classroom and community will benefit from a teacher focused on individualization; local and global community; and commitment to diversity.
I seek to be a resource in my workplace for global learning connections; as well as an encouraging leader for social justice in the fight for all children to have a fair and thorough education. My experience gained from this professional development opportunity will give me personal familiarity with our global learning needs, leadership practice, and a greater depth of diversity consciousness.
