Training Teachers to Reduce Their Carbon Footprint
I need Chromebooks to provide to teachers at my school for an ongoing training development series. This series will incorporate the use of computers to effectively plan activities that reduce their carbon footprint.
We are an International Baccalaureate elementary school whose mission is to cultivate in each student the desire to grow in wisdom, to nurture an open and curious mind and to serve others with a generous spirit. We have a truly international culture and diverse student population.
Our goal is to create an advanced elementary program where our students become critical and compassionate thinkers.
Students become aware of the shared humanity that binds all people together and develop respect for the variety of cultures and attitudes that adds to life’s richness.
My Project
My school is currently focusing on how to transition to a more sustainable teaching practice. This can prove to be difficult when many of our teachers are lacking the necessary equipment in order to research and prepare lessons that are using less resources. As a teacher leader and coach I often provide them resources and tools that they are unable to access because they do not have the needed technology.
I want to provide my teachers an in-depth training experience where they will have the equipment needed to plan hands-on, technology based, and explorative lessons where the students are in control.
During this training experience we will be developing skills in Office 365 and how students can work in and submit through this platform. Teachers will also explore in depth online and clever resources for their students in order to create less waste with paper and a faster and easier communication system between teacher and stakeholders- such as SeeSaw.
By providing faculty with the Chromebooks they will be able to easily work through the training and also have the needed equipment to take back to their classrooms so that they may implement the new skills. As an IB school we are globally minded. Reducing our waste and moving to a more sustainable teaching and learning process only helps us in our goals to become more globally minded.
