My Students
The students that make up our middle school and high school track teams are extremely dedicated and hardworking students, as well as athletes. The discipline needed to succeed in one translates well in helping with the other.
We are a school located in the South Bronx of New York City.
Our students compete with teams from throughout the city. The school is located in district 7, which is an underfunded school district. The school and some parents have a hard time providing the students with some of the needs for extracurricular activities.
My Project
We have a group of hardworking, dedicated runners on our middle school and high school track teams. These students arrive at 6am and they run laps around the school building before heading into the weight room to do strength training. In the months of December and January, it is still dark and cold when our students run in the mornings.
There are students who run every day and have to wear worn out sneakers.
Our students run in all conditions, including rain, snow, and cold. They often have to wear sneakers with holes in them or worn out outsoles. These new sneakers would be a great benefit to them. They will allow my students to run in comfort, and be competitive in track meets with other schools around the city.
