Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am a K-3 resource teacher and I LOVE my students. I pull some of them into the resource room throughout the day for extra academic and behavioral support. I also co-teach in their general education classrooms. This means I not only get to provide support in inclusive settings for my students, but students who do not get extra services also benefit from the extra support.
For some students, school is really tough and can be extremely frustrating at times.
I love working alongside these students and helping them realize that they can learn new things and gain new skills.
My Project
We have an exciting new program at my school called Reading Rangers! My third-grade resource (special education) students and several of their peers are currently reading at the lowest level, Wonder Readers.
I know they can rock it and become Ninja Readers!
We are just missing one thing -- the books to get them there.
I and my co-teacher would like to start with four copies each of 25 Wonder Reader titles. Why? We'll pull a small group of Wonder Readers to build fluency and comprehension by working together to decode words and discuss important story elements. We'll teach them the love of reading!
