The players at our rural high school come from various socio-economic backgrounds. Players have the opportunity to try out for the team as 7th through 12th graders, so this project has the opportunity to impact several grade levels and ability groups. The players at our rural Mississippi high school have a passion for baseball unmatched by most in our area. That passion has led to five consecutive district wins and playoff appearances.
Despite the struggles of being from a rural area and many from low to mid-income families, the players have overcome many obstacles and maintain a level of professionalism.
About 82% of our students receive free or reduced-price lunches, and many are from broken homes.
My Project
Our team of 60 students is requesting basic training equipment necessary for safe conditioning and effective practice. The wall balls will add resistance to strength training, increasing cardiovascular strength and endurance. The resistance bands we are requesting are critical in stretching arm, back, and shoulder muscles and have been proven to reduce injury in players. Finally, the batting net will allow our players to fine tune their batting stance and swing.
The basic training equipment requested will ensure that our players are conditioning safely and practicing effectively to reduce injury instances and fine tune skills.
We know this equipment will be beneficial to our program.
