My Students

We are a large elementary school in a middle class neighborhood but because of that we do not receive the needed resources. We are the forgotten kids because it is assumed that they have access to these items when really they do not. Our elementary school does not receive any additional funding so I have to purchase any supplies/instructional materials to support my students' education. We lack the extras that students need to meet the common core standards. These kids are great kids who love to learn and would really thrive with exposure to traditional literature.

My Project

Reading Alice's Adventures in Wonderland is an outstanding way to allow students to experience traditional literature. They will be able to analyze metaphors and puns. They will find symbolism and be able To critically analyze the hidden meaning in this wonderful story. Students will also make personal connections as they leave character development and change as they get ready to move on to middle school themselves. They will make connections about making life choices, adapting to changes and making new friends. They will have conversations that will allow them to create meaning and discover connections with their peers. This will show them that everyone has the same hopes and fears. What better way to do this than through literature.
