My school is located in a low socioeconomic area with very limited resources. The population is 30% special needs and has a blend of different races and ethnicities. The majority of our students are on free or reduced lunch.
The kids inspire me to come to work every day!
Many are trying to rise above the challenges of poverty in their life (parents in prison, single-parent homes, parents working two jobs just to pay the bills) and use education as a means to improve the quality of their lives. These kids still look at education as fun and are enthusiastic learners. They are always asking about how things work or why events happen. The school is doing well when it comes to testing, but our district budget continues to be cut, which means little to no field trips or memorable Homecomings and Prom. We need to have more experiences for our school community, and in the classroom, to make up for the loss of experiences that students living in the suburbs have traditionally.
My Project
We are trying to rework and resupply the weight room at our school to be more modern and comparable to our suburban school counterparts. This entails strength training equipment that professional athletes and other high schools use. The item we are asking for is a converging chest press by Matrix. This is an expensive piece but the warranty is one of the best and it should last more than three decades. The weight room is an important tool for our track team and track stars. The current chest press is in very bad shape and this Matrix Converging Chest press would help our students meet their fitness goals and also improve their athleticism on the track field. Training hard and having the best equipment possible are ingredients to an athletes success! Thank you.
